Creating Rubber Stamps
The ability to create tapered characters is a common feature on most laser engraving systems. Using the special stamp driver creates a series of shoulder steps that increase slightly in size and result in a bevel around the characters.

The original use for this feature was to make rubber stamps using the laser engraving system. Other applications include hot stamp dies and flexographic printing plates.

- Start with your layout program by entering the text and logo for the stamp. Draw a box around the outside of the text that is the size of the stamp unit.

Fill the box with black and apply a red hairline outline. Select the text in the box and fill it with white.

- Print the graphic to the laser and select the 'Add Shoulder' or 'Rubber Stamp' feature in the print driver.
Then select the correct power and speed for engraving and cutting the laser rubber sheet as suggested in your manual.

- after engraving, remove the rubber sheet from the laser and wash it under running water using a citrus-based cleaner and scrub brush.

- Lock the stamp unit by pressing down the stamp and moving the lock button into place. Now you can apply the stamp die.

  • Apply the stamp die to desired stamp unit.

Remember: If your laser system has air assist, set it to the "low" or "off' " setting. This will reduce the amount of rubber dust sprayed inside the laser system. Also, be sure to clean out the inside of the laser and check the laser optics after engraving.
